Yeah, we (Bigsby's Howlin' Coyotes) also played some Don Woody's songs. How did you know? Have you ever seen us performing? I esp. liked to do "barkin' up the wrong tree", we all barked liked mad dogs in that song!
Remember, the coyotes don't perform anymore. Check out my new band at www.unclelukescousins.nl

Great to see this site dedicated to one of the Finest (and Underated) Rockabilly talents the fifties produced. A little sad that in the U.S.A., artists like Don Woody are almost forgotten, it seems it takes true fans like Lotta & Kitti in Russia, and others throughout Europe and here in Australia to keep that Rockabilly flame alive!
Keep Rockin'

G,day Gals,
Don Woody was definately one of the beast Rockabilly singers of the 50's and with the brilliant Grady Martin backing him on geetar you can't go wrong with his recordings.
We cover both "Barking" and "Morse code" in our sets and released our version of "Barking Up The Wrong Tree" on our second CD.
Rock On!! |

I always loved Woody's recordings. The production and his band were of a much higher standard than most other acts of that time.
It's a shame so few people know him apart from rockabillies. I remember I was at the Cruise Inn in Amsterdam and after we played, the discotheque was on and everybody was singing along to "Barking Up The Wrong Tree". That was pretty cool. It was like it was a pop hit or something. |

Wow! Great site to a great singer and songwriter! We used to cover songs of him as he has really fantastic songs.
A great pleasure for us that on "cover list" is our version of "Bigelow 6200"! |

| Don Woody has been a particular favourite of mine for some years now. He obtains a unique sound and the humorous aspect of Barkin' up the wrong tree caused me to want to perform and record it. The guitar licks on Morse Code are a classic and I have long tried to copy it and get that same superb sound. |
